Why Gunslinger Auctions

What We Bring to the Table

Services

Auction Consignment

Single firearms, complete collections, and entire estates. We handle research, photography, cataloging, marketing, and shipping, with roughly 10,000 packages shipped per year. Drop off at either location and let the auction do the work. You get access to our established buyer base without dealing with listings, negotiations, or shipping logistics yourself. Contact us to discuss terms and current intake availability.

Firearms: The Core

Handguns, rifles, shotguns, and long guns of every configuration: new production, pre-owned, antique, and collectible. Off-roster California handguns, NFA-eligible items, and single-action revolvers are particular strengths. If it shoots, we can sell it.

Antique & Militaria

Pre-1899 antique firearms, Civil War and WWI/WWII military surplus, edged weapons of every era: swords, sabers, bayonets, daggers, spears, and knives. Historical militaria, uniforms, medals, and field gear. This is a specialty maintained since 1998 with deep collector market expertise.

Services

Firearms Appraisals

Written and verbal appraisals for antique, military, and modern collector firearms. Estate valuations, insurance appraisals, and pre-sale estimates. 125+ combined years of team experience. We've handled everything from single working guns to major private collections. If you need documentation for an estate, insurance carrier, or sale decision, call us before guessing at value online. Azusa: (626) 914-7010 • Orange: (714) 939-1172

Western & Cowboy Americana

Cowboy action competition guns, working and show saddles, custom leather holsters and tack, spurs, period riding gear, and Western-themed collectibles. Jeff Taverner is a two-time SASS World Champion; Western Americana is a house specialty, not a sideline.

Fine Art & Decoratives

Western fine art, wildlife art, original paintings, limited-edition prints, bronze sculpture, dioramas, and decorative collectibles. We have moved everything from signed oils to elaborate hand-built dioramas representing firearms history. If it appreciates, it can auction.

Estates & Full Collections

One firearm or 5,000; the process is the same. We photograph, catalog, research, market, and sell every piece. Estate deadlines are met. Nothing comes back. For large collections, we coordinate full transport and can travel to you anywhere in the country.

Services

FFL Transfers: By Appointment Only

We accept incoming FFL transfers at both locations. If you've purchased a firearm from another dealer or through an online sale and need it transferred through a licensed FFL, contact us before shipping to confirm current procedures. Azusa: (626) 914-7010 • Orange: (714) 939-1172

Appraisals & Valuations

Written and verbal appraisals for antique, military, and modern collector firearms. Estate, insurance, and pre-sale valuations backed by 125+ combined years of team experience. We have appeared as expert appraisers in national media; the background is real.

Firearms

Rifles

Bolt-action, lever-action, semi-automatic, and single-shot: hunting rifles, military surplus, and collector-grade arms across every era. Our inventory spans everything from working-grade field rifles to matching-numbers military pieces that belong in a display case. We see a lot through consignment. If you're looking for something specific, check the current auction catalog or call us. If you're selling, we'll give you an honest assessment of what it's worth and how it will do at auction.

Firearms

Shotguns

Pump, semi-auto, over/under, side-by-side, and single-barrel. Field guns, competition guns, and vintage American scatterguns. We see a lot of classic American and European doubles come through on consignment; it is worth checking the catalog before assuming we only carry modern production. If you're looking to sell a good double, we know the buyer base for them.

Firearms

Pistols & Revolvers

Semi-automatic pistols and revolvers of all eras. Single-action, double-action, pocket pistols, duty guns, and competition-grade handguns. SASS single-action revolvers are a specialty; Jeff Taverner is a two-time SASS World Champion, and that background shows in how we know and describe these guns. If you're looking for a quality SASS rig or have one to sell, you're in the right place.

Firearms

Black Powder & Muzzleloaders

Percussion revolvers, muzzleloading rifles, and flintlock arms. These typically do not require FFL transfer under federal law and can often ship directly to you, though classification depends on the specific firearm, and you should verify before assuming. Check individual listings for classification details. If you have questions about a specific piece, call us before bidding.

Firearms

Antique & Curio & Relic Firearms

Pre-1899 antiques and ATF-classified C&R firearms make up a significant part of what moves through our auctions. If you hold a Type 03 C&R license, you'll find plenty here worth watching. We flag C&R eligibility on every qualifying lot. If you're building a collection or looking to liquidate one, we know this market. Contact us to discuss consignment or to get an appraisal on what you have.

Firearms

Military Surplus & Historical Arms

Military rifles, pistols, and edged weapons spanning WWI through Vietnam and beyond. Matching-numbers examples, bring-backs, and demilled display pieces all come through on a regular basis. This is one of the strongest categories in our auctions. Serious collector interest translates to strong results. Estate collections in this category are especially welcome on consignment; contact us before deciding how to handle an inherited military collection.

Firearms

Magnum & Large-Caliber Firearms

Big-bore revolvers, magnum rifles, and specialty-caliber firearms for hunting and collection. We get a steady flow of high-powered revolvers and lever-actions chambered in the heavy calibers: .44 Mag, .454 Casull, .500 S&W, .45-70, and others. If you're hunting or collecting in the large-caliber space, check the current catalog. If you're selling, these typically do well at auction when properly described.

Firearms

Sporting & Competition Guns

SASS/CAS rigs, target pistols, trap and skeet guns, and action shooting platforms. We know this market well; if you're outfitting for a specific discipline, come in and talk before you buy. Jeff Taverner is a two-time SASS World Champion. That's not a marketing line; it means we understand what makes a good competition gun, what to look for in a used SASS rig, and what your setup is actually worth on the secondary market.

Ammunition & Accessories

Firearm Accessories

Holsters, slings, cases, grips, stocks, and related accessories, available both in-store at Azusa and through auction as part of estate lots. We don't maintain a deep accessories retail inventory, but the auction side moves a lot of gear as package lots. If you have a large accessories collection to move, consignment is often the most efficient path.

Collectibles & Militaria

Edged Weapons

Bayonets, fighting knives, swords, and daggers: military and civilian, domestic and foreign. A specialty we've maintained since 1998. If you're building a collection or looking to sell, we know the market and the buyer base for these pieces. Contact us to discuss consignment or to get an appraisal on what you have.

Collectibles & Militaria

Military Surplus & Militaria

Helmets, uniforms, insignia, medals, field gear, and historical military artifacts from multiple nations and eras. These lots draw serious collector interest at auction and sell well. Estate militaria collections are always welcome on consignment. If you've inherited a collection and aren't sure what you have or what it's worth, call us before making any decisions. Provenance matters in this category, and proper cataloging makes a real difference at auction.

Collectibles & Militaria

Jewelry & Precious Metals

Jewelry, coins, and precious metal items come through regularly as part of estate consignments. These lots are cataloged, photographed, and auctioned to a broad collector audience. If you're including jewelry or precious metals as part of a larger estate consignment, we handle it as part of the package. Contact us to discuss.

Collectibles & Militaria

Art & Collectibles

Artwork, Western Americana, and general collectibles are part of the auction mix. The inventory changes with every consignment; check the current catalog or sign up for auction notifications to stay current. If you have art or collectibles as part of an estate you're settling, contact us. We'll evaluate whether the material is a fit for our buyer base.
The Right Team

We’ve Been Doing This Since the Beginning

Gunslinger Auctions is a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL) with locations in Orange and Azusa, California. We buy, consign, and auction firearms and collections throughout the state and across the country. We have sold over a million firearms through our platform since 1998. If you’re holding a collection and don’t know what to do with it, we’ve been doing this since the beginning.

Your Options

Three Ways to Sell. One Team That Handles All of It.

Every seller’s situation is different. We don’t force you into one path.

Auction Consignment: Maximum Value, Zero Upfront Cost

When you want top dollar and you’re willing to wait for the right buyer, consignment is your best move. We photograph, list, market, store, and ship your items to a national audience of serious collectors and enthusiasts. Our commission comes from the final sale; you pay nothing until your items sell.

There’s one angle that surprises most California sellers: off-roster handguns. California’s Handgun Roster restricts what can be sold new in this state; private party transfers through a licensed FFL are exempt from roster requirements. That means an off-roster handgun consigned through Gunslinger Auctions can reach California buyers who have no other legal path to acquire it. Scarcity drives value. Collectors know this; they bid accordingly.

Direct Buyout: Fast, Fair, and Final

Sometimes you need the collection gone and you need it gone now. We’ve heard every reason: estate deadlines, storage constraints, out-of-state executors. Our direct buyout offers are competitive, straightforward, and obligation-free. No pressure, no games.

Nationwide Collection Pickup; We Come to You

Got a large collection and no way to move it? We’ll come to you. Our fully insured transport vehicle has made runs to estates across the contiguous United States. For significant collections, the pickup is on us.

The Process

How It Works: Start to Finish

Step 1: Tell Us What You Have

Fill out our consignment form or call us directly. Send us photos, descriptions, and any documentation you have; the more we receive, the faster we can give you an accurate picture of what your collection is worth.

Step 2: We Assess and Advise

Our team reviews your submission and comes back with a valuation and a recommended path. This assessment costs you nothing and commits you to nothing.

Step 3: We Handle the Legal Side

California law requires all firearms transfers to be processed through a licensed dealer. That means DROS processing, HSC verification where applicable, and proper documentation across the board. We handle every bit of it.

Step 4: You Get Paid

Direct buyout payments are issued promptly after transfer. Consignment payments follow the close of auction. No hidden fees. No surprises.

What We Accept

What We Accept

Firearms are our expertise; we handle antique, modern, military, and everything in between. Our platform doesn’t stop there.

  • Modern handguns, rifles, and shotguns
  • Antique and pre-1899 firearms
  • Curio and Relic (C&R) eligible firearms
  • Military surplus and wartime-issue weapons
  • Firearm accessories, optics, and parts
  • Militaria, uniforms, edged weapons, and wartime memorabilia
  • Historical documents and insignia
  • Fine art, estate jewelry, and rare collectibles
Estate & Inherited

Selling an Inherited or Estate Firearm Collection in California

If you’re here because someone passed away and left behind firearms: first, we’re sorry for your loss. Second, you need to know that California law does not allow inherited firearms to simply change hands between family members without proper documentation and transfer through a licensed dealer in most circumstances.

The intra-familial exemption is narrow; it covers direct parent-child and grandparent-grandchild transfers only, excludes siblings entirely, and still requires a report to the DOJ within 30 days.

We work directly with estate attorneys, executors, and trustees throughout California. Don’t guess your way through this. Call us first.

The Difference

Why Sellers Choose Gunslinger Auctions

We’re not a marketplace algorithm. We’re not a pawn shop. We’re a licensed, bonded, insured auction house run by people who know firearms; they understand the history, mechanics, market value, and the law surrounding every transaction.

We also host the Gunslinger Syndicated Radio Show; it airs two hours of live firearms talk every Sunday, broadcast simultaneously across more than six AM radio stations covering California, Nevada, and Arizona, and live-streamed worldwide. The YouTube channel alone has crossed four million views. That’s not just a marketing channel; it’s the reason consignors and estate clients find us before they find anyone else.

We’re rooted in Southern California. Gunslinger Auctions in Orange and Gunslingers Gun Shop in Azusa serve the greater Los Angeles and Orange County markets with the infrastructure and licensing to handle large estate collections quickly and correctly.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I clean or modify the firearms before bringing them in?
No. Bring everything exactly as you found it. Attempting to clean, repair, or alter a firearm before appraisal can actually reduce its value, especially with antiques and collectibles. We'll take it from there.
What if I have no paperwork or history on the firearms?
That's more common than you'd think and it's not a dealbreaker. Bring what you have. We research provenance regularly and missing documentation rarely disqualifies a firearm from sale.
How long does gun consignment take?
Most consigned items sell within one to three auction cycles. High-demand pieces move faster. We'll give you an honest timeline estimate during your appraisal; this is an actual date, not a sales pitch.
Do you pick up gun collections from private residences?
Yes. We are fully licensed and insured for in-home collection pickup throughout California and nationwide. For large or high-value collections, we'll come to you at no charge, anywhere in the contiguous United States.
How do I sell inherited guns in California legally?
California requires inherited firearms to be transferred through a licensed FFL dealer in most circumstances; firearms cannot simply pass between family members without documentation. The intra-familial exemption is limited to direct parent-child and grandparent-grandchild transfers, excludes siblings, and still requires a DOJ report within 30 days. As an FFL, we handle the DROS processing, the required state paperwork, and coordinate directly with estate attorneys when needed. Call us before you do anything else.
Can I drop off my collection at your Orange location?
Absolutely. Our Orange location at 1740 W. La Veta Ave is open for drop-offs and walk-in appraisals. Give us a call ahead of time so we can make sure the right person is available to assess your collection.
Can I drop off my collection at your Azusa location?
Yes. Our Gunslinger's Gun Shop in Azusa at 1141 E Alosta Ave is available for drop-offs as well. Call ahead and we will have everything ready for you when you arrive.
What if the collection includes non-firearm items?
We handle it all under one roof. Militaria, jewelry, art, historical documents, general estate collectibles. Bring the whole collection. You don't need to sort it before contacting us.
Is there a minimum collection size?
No minimum. One firearm or one thousand; we'll have the conversation.
