Before You Bid
How does Gunslinger Auctions' live firearm auction process work?
Gunslinger Auctions is a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL) and live auction house based in Orange, California. Every auction runs simultaneously across four channels: in the room, on HiBid.com, on Proxibid.com, and through our Sealed Bid system on GunslingerAuctions.com. The Auctioneer calls bids in real time, declares each winner, and calls the Hammer Price; this is the final, binding sale amount. It moves fast.
Because all four channels compete in the same live auction, there can be a split-second difference between what different platforms display at the moment of sale. Bid decisively. The Auctioneer cannot be held responsible for bids that don't reach him in time due to platform lag or connectivity; that is the nature of live multi-platform auction, and by registering and bidding you accept that risk.
In-person bidders have first priority in any dispute, followed by Sealed Bidders, then online bidders. All bid disputes are resolved exclusively at the Auctioneer's sole discretion. The Auctioneer's call is final and binding.

How do I register to bid at Gunslinger Auctions on HiBid, Proxibid, or the website?
Registration is required before placing any bid, regardless of channel. Here's how it works on each platform:
HiBid.com: Create or log into your HiBid account and register for the specific Gunslinger Auctions event. You'll check a box acknowledging our Terms & Conditions as part of the process. Approval is mostly automatic, but we reserve the right to approve or deny any registration at our sole discretion.
Proxibid.com: Register for the event through your Proxibid account. Our Terms & Conditions are referenced directly above the bid button every time you place a bid on that platform.
Sealed Bids (GunslingerAuctions.com): Use the Sealed Bid form on our website. You'll scroll through our full Terms & Conditions and click to acknowledge before your submission goes through. A $1.00 non-refundable verification charge confirms your payment method at the time of submission.
Register at least 24 hours before auction start to avoid approval delays; late registrations may be rejected without notice. You're legally bound by our Terms & Conditions upon registration, regardless of whether any confirmation email is received, opened, or read. You'll receive email confirmations at registration and at invoice issuance; both contain a direct link to our full Terms & Conditions.

Can I preview firearms and items in person before bidding at Gunslinger Auctions?
Yes; in-person preview is free, requires no appointment, and is strongly encouraged before bidding on any firearm. Preview takes place at our Orange facility during regular business hours:
Gunslinger Auctions, LLC
1740 West La Veta Ave, Orange, CA 92868
Tuesday through Friday, 10 AM to 5 PM | Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM (PT)
During preview you can handle items, examine condition first-hand, and ask our staff questions. Our descriptions are written in good faith; no written description substitutes for direct inspection, especially for firearms where mechanical condition, bore condition, and safety are concerns that a catalog entry cannot fully address. If you bid without inspecting in person, you're agreeing that you had the opportunity and chose to pass on it. That decision is yours, and it's binding.
One thing we will not do under any circumstances: disassemble or field-strip firearms for inspection. That applies to every item, every time, without exception. Come look at the exterior, ask us what we know, and budget for a professional gunsmith inspection after purchase before attempting to fire any lot.
How accurate are Gunslinger Auctions' firearm catalog descriptions and condition assessments?
Every catalog description is written in good faith by our staff and covers the information visible to us: make, model, caliber, observable condition, notable markings, and any accessories included with the lot. These descriptions represent our opinions; they are not warranties, guarantees, or representations of any kind.
What our descriptions do not and cannot cover: mechanical condition, internal function, timing, headspace, bore condition, or safety. We do not test-fire, function-test, or perform any mechanical inspection on consigned firearms. We do not disassemble them. A catalog entry cannot tell you whether a firearm is safe to fire; only a qualified, licensed gunsmith can make that determination. Before attempting to fire any firearm purchased at auction, take it to a licensed gunsmith for a full inspection. No exceptions.
All firearms and related items are sold as collectors items only. Operability and fitness to fire are expressly disclaimed across every lot, regardless of what the description says about condition.
If you identify a factual error in a listing before the auction (wrong caliber, wrong manufacturer, wrong model designation), contact us immediately. We'll correct it if we can before bidding opens.
Are all firearms and items at Gunslinger Auctions sold as-is with no warranty?
Yes. Every item sold at Gunslinger Auctions is sold strictly as-is, where-is. No warranties are expressed or implied; this includes the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, both of which are specifically disclaimed. We don't function-test, test-fire, or perform mechanical inspections on any consigned item. What you see, and what we describe, is the full extent of what we represent.
This is not a formality. For firearms in particular, "as-is" means you are purchasing a collector's item whose mechanical condition, safety, and fitness to fire are unknown and unrepresented. Before bidding on any firearm, come to preview, examine it in person, ask us your questions, and plan to have a licensed gunsmith inspect it before you attempt to fire it. We mean that sincerely, not as a legal disclaimer.
Bidding: Live Online and Sealed Bids
How does live online bidding work at Gunslinger Auctions on HiBid and Proxibid?
HiBid.com and Proxibid.com both offer live real-time bidding as the Auctioneer calls each lot. If you haven't used either platform before, get familiar with the interface before auction day; both have distinct layouts and each has its own quirks under live conditions.
It moves fast. Gunslinger Auctions runs at a live auction pace. There are no pauses or holds for online bidders. If you're watching a lot you want, have your bid ready before it comes up.
Every bid is a binding purchase commitment the moment you click. No retractions are permitted. "I didn't mean to click," "I misread the price," and "I changed my mind" are not grounds for retraction or cancellation under any circumstances. If it's the winning bid, you bought it.
Platform lag is real. Live multi-platform auction means bids travel across networks in real time. If your bid doesn't reach the Auctioneer before the hammer falls, it doesn't count; there is no recourse after the fact. Bid with enough margin to account for normal network latency.
Pre-bidding (absentee bidding) is available. Both platforms allow you to set a maximum bid in advance; the platform auto-bids on your behalf up to that ceiling during the live auction. This is a reliable option if you can't be present for the live event.
Post-auction invoice reconciliation: After every auction, all bids across all platforms are reconciled and invoices are corrected to reflect the true Hammer Price as declared by the Auctioneer. If you receive an updated invoice after the auction, this reconciliation process is why.
How do Sealed Bids work at Gunslinger Auctions, and how do I submit one?
A Sealed Bid is a confidential maximum bid submitted before the auction starts, through which we bid on your behalf during the live auction up to your stated ceiling. You can submit a Sealed Bid through the Sealed Bid page on GunslingerAuctions.com, by phone, or in person at our Orange facility.
Submission deadline: All Sealed Bids must be received no later than 24 hours before scheduled auction start. Late submissions may be rejected without notice. Submit well in advance; we are not obligated to review submissions made close to the deadline before the auction begins.
Verification charge: A $1.00 non-refundable fee is charged at submission to confirm your payment method on file. The automated receipt email you receive confirms only that your submission entered our system; it does not confirm acceptance of your bid by the Auction House.
Confirm acceptance directly. You are solely responsible for contacting us after submission to confirm we received and accepted your bid. Do not assume your Sealed Bid is active without hearing from us. Unconfirmed submissions are entirely at your risk.
How winning works: If your lot sells below your stated maximum, you pay the final bid amount; you never pay your stated ceiling. If two Sealed Bids are tied, the earlier submission wins. Once submitted, a Sealed Bid is irrevocable; it cannot be modified or withdrawn for any reason.
Invoicing: Sealed Bid invoices are generated manually after auction close. If you won and haven't received an invoice within a reasonable time, contact us and ask. Payment is due within 3 calendar days of receiving your invoice. If paying by check, contact us within those 3 days to confirm it's on the way.
Payment and Costs
What California sales tax and government fees should I expect on a firearm auction purchase?
All applicable taxes and government-mandated fees are the buyer's sole responsibility and are assessed in addition to the Hammer Price and Buyer's Premium. We don't set these amounts and have no discretion over them; they are imposed by state and local authority and are subject to change at any time without notice from the Auction House.
California sales tax applies to all purchases by California residents unless you provide a valid resale certificate at the time of purchase.
California firearms excise tax applies to all firearm purchases except Pre-98 antiques. This excise tax is assessed on the full transaction value (Hammer Price, Buyer's Premium, and any applicable shipping charges); it is not assessed on the Hammer Price alone.
California DOJ background check fee applies at the time of transfer and is set by the California Department of Justice. This fee is assessed at the current DOJ rate in effect on the date of your transfer and is separate from the DROS processing fee.
Out-of-state buyers transferring a firearm outside of California are not subject to California state taxes; your home state, county, or municipality may impose its own taxes and fees on the transaction. That compliance is your responsibility.
HiBid.com and Proxibid.com collect applicable sales tax automatically through their platforms at checkout. Tax rates and government-mandated fees are set by applicable authority and are subject to change without notice. Refer to the California Department of Justice for current fee schedules.
When is payment due at Gunslinger Auctions, and what payment methods are accepted?
Payment deadlines at Gunslinger Auctions depend on how you bid:
| Channel | Deadline |
|---|---|
| In-Person | Payment due in full on auction day |
| Online (HiBid.com, Proxibid.com) | Within 3 calendar days of auction close |
| Sealed Bid / Phone Bid | Within 3 calendar days of invoice receipt |
Accepted payment methods: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, cash (USD only), and certified checks. By registering, you expressly authorize us to store your payment method on file and charge it for any unpaid balance due; this includes Hammer Price, Buyer's Premium, taxes, government-mandated fees, and shipping. Pre-authorization holds may be applied before auction close.
Keep your contact information current. Failure to receive an invoice because of outdated contact details does not extend your payment deadline or relieve any obligation.
If you need to make other arrangements, contact us before the deadline; do not wait until after it has passed. Unpaid balances accrue interest at 1.5% per month beginning on the 7th calendar day following auction close (online bidders) or the 7th calendar day following invoice receipt (sealed and phone bid participants). Failure to pay does not void the sale; the debt remains and grows.
On chargebacks: Initiating a chargeback, ACH reversal, stopped check, or any other payment reversal for any reason other than documented unauthorized use of your payment method by an unaffiliated third party is a material breach of our agreement. We will pursue all available remedies, including the full invoice amount, default fees, arbitration costs, and attorney fees. If you have a legitimate concern, contact us first. That is what dispute resolution is for.
What happens if I win a lot at Gunslinger Auctions and don't pay?
Non-payment is a material breach of your purchase agreement. The consequences are serious and cumulative:
- The sale stands; failure to pay does not void your purchase obligation.
- Your winning lots will be forfeited and resold.
- A non-refundable administrative default fee of 25% of the Hammer Price will be assessed to cover the costs of remarketing, processing, and reselling your defaulted lot.
- Interest accrues on any unpaid balance at 1.5% per month beginning on the 7th calendar day following auction close.
- You will be held liable for any deficiency between your original invoice amount and the resale proceeds, plus all costs of the original and resale transactions.
- Your account will be reported to HiBid and Proxibid as a non-paying bidder.
- You may be permanently banned from all future Gunslinger Auctions events.
- Your unpaid debt is assignable; we may transfer collection rights to a third party without further notice to you.
If you're dealing with a genuine hardship (a cash flow issue, an emergency, or anything similar), call us before the deadline. We've worked with people in difficult situations before. What we don't do is ignore the problem or absorb costs that belong to the buyer.
Firearm Transfers and California Law
How does firearm transfer work after winning at Gunslinger Auctions; what do FFL, DROS, and out-of-state shipping require?
Gunslinger Auctions is a federally licensed firearms dealer. Every regulated transfer goes through us in strict compliance with applicable federal and California law. Your transfer path depends on where you are and what you bought.
California buyers picking up in-person: You'll complete the full California transfer process at our Orange facility, including a California DOJ background check (DROS), mandatory waiting period, and payment of all applicable state fees. Come prepared with valid government-issued ID. See the DROS FAQ entry for what to bring.
California buyers shipping within state: Your firearm ships to a licensed FFL dealer of your choice in California. Have your receiving dealer email their current, valid FFL copy to [email protected] with your FULL NAME and BIDDER NUMBER in the message. One FFL submission covers all items you won in the same auction event; prior auction FFL submissions are not retained or reused. We will not initiate shipment until full payment is received and a valid FFL is on file.
Out-of-state buyers: Same FFL submission process; your receiving dealer sends us their current license referencing your name and bidder number, and we ship to them. Before sending us their license, confirm your dealer actually agrees to accept the transfer. Not all dealers accept transfers from other FFLs, and that arrangement is entirely between you and your dealer. We bear no responsibility for a dealer's refusal after their license has been submitted.
International buyers: We do not export firearms directly outside the United States. Identify a U.S.-based dealer with appropriate ATF export authority, have them submit their FFL to us, and all export procedures and legal compliance from that point forward are between you and your export dealer.
Pre-98 antique firearms (manufactured on or before December 31, 1898) are generally exempt from FFL transfer requirements under federal law and may often ship directly to the buyer. Confirm your own state's laws before relying on this exemption; some states impose requirements regardless of the federal classification.
Only the registered buyer (the bidder of record) may take personal possession of any purchased firearm. No proxy, family member, or agent may pick up on your behalf, except a licensed receiving dealer completing an authorized FFL transfer.
Questions about your specific transfer? Contact us directly before the auction whenever possible; do not wait until after you've won.
What do I need to bring to complete my California DROS at Gunslinger Auctions?
The California Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) is the state's mandatory firearm transfer paperwork, processed through the California Department of Justice. All California firearm purchases require a DROS; what you bring depends on whether you are purchasing a long gun or a handgun.
Required for all California firearm purchases:
- Valid California Real ID, driver's license, or state-issued photo ID; the magnetic stripe must be readable, and temporary or expired IDs are not accepted
- If you do not possess a California Real ID (featuring a gold-colored bear on the front, top-right) you must also provide a 2nd-proof of residency. This can be an electric bill or vehicle registration; 2nd-proof MUST match your name and address exactly as stated on your driver's license or photo ID
- Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC); obtained by passing a written DOJ test administered at most licensed dealers, valid for 5 years; exemptions include valid CA CCW holders, active and retired law enforcement, and active military
Handgun (pistols / revolvers) purchases also require:
- You must be 21 or older; no exceptions
- Proof of California residency beyond your DL/ID; acceptable documents include a recent utility bill (within 3 months), a residential lease, a property deed, a valid CA CCW, vehicle registration, or a hunting or fishing license; the document must match or support your declared address, and PO boxes are not accepted
- The handgun must be on the California Certified Handgun Roster; PPT transfers and qualifying peace officer exemptions allow for off-roster handguns in certain circumstances
Long gun (shotguns / rifles) purchases; fewer requirements apply:
- Minimum age is 18; no exceptions
- A valid California hunting license may substitute for the FSC for long gun purchases only
Bring original documents; copies are generally not accepted. Non-citizens must bring immigration documentation (Alien Registration or I-94). DROS requirements and California DOJ fees are subject to change. Verify current requirements with the California Department of Justice prior to your transfer appointment.
What happens if I'm a California resident and win a firearm marked Out-of-State Only?
Lots marked Out-of-State Only are firearms that California law prohibits us from transferring to California buyers; do not bid on these lots if you are a California resident. If you bid and win despite this restriction, the firearm will not be released to you under any circumstances.
When a California buyer wins a lot they cannot legally receive, they are automatically designated a Deemed Consignor under our Terms & Conditions. This designation is automatic; it requires no separate agreement. As Deemed Consignor, the item is consigned to us for resale on your behalf at the next available auction. The following cost structure applies:
- Storage fees of $5.00 per item per day begin accruing on the 61st calendar day after the original auction close.
- The Auction House retains a 25% commission on the resale Hammer Price.
- All costs of both the original and resale transactions are deducted from gross resale proceeds before any amount is remitted to you.
- If net resale proceeds are insufficient to cover all amounts owed, you remain personally liable for the deficiency.
The original sale does not unwind. Know what you are legally permitted to own and receive in California before you bid. When in doubt, ask us or consult your own attorney before placing a bid; do not wait until after you have won.
California buyers who need a non-compliant firearm shipped to a compliant jurisdiction (for example, to an out-of-state family member) may arrange shipping to an out-of-state FFL of their choice using the standard FFL submission process.
Can active law enforcement officers purchase off-roster handguns at a California firearms auction?
Yes. Active sworn law enforcement officers in California may be eligible to purchase handguns not listed on the California Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale under the applicable peace officer exemption, provided all legal requirements are met at the time of transfer. The standard DROS and transfer process still applies; the exemption affects roster eligibility only, not the transfer paperwork itself.
Bring your department-issued credentials and any documentation required to establish your active sworn status when you come to complete the transfer. If you have any questions about your specific eligibility, contact us before the auction; do not wait until after you've won the lot. We cannot hold a lot pending eligibility verification after the hammer falls.
Shipping and Pickup
How does Gunslinger Auctions ship firearms, and what does shipping cost?
Gunslinger Auctions ships eligible items via UPS or USPS at our discretion. All shipments include carrier insurance. Shipment will not be initiated until full payment is received and all required transfer documentation (FFL or other applicable paperwork) is on file. We do not ship to jurisdictions where receipt of the item is prohibited by applicable law.
Estimated shipping timeframe: between one and six weeks after all payment and documentation requirements are satisfied; that range reflects real-world processing volume, and high-volume auctions take longer.
Approximate shipping costs (subject to change based on location and carrier pricing):
- Long guns: $75 to $95 for the first item; approximately $40 per additional long gun
- Handguns: $40 to $50 for the first item; approximately $10 to $20 per additional handgun
Adult signature is required on every delivery without exception. We will not authorize carrier signature release under any circumstances; any notation, form, or instruction purporting to waive the signature requirement is void. It is your sole responsibility to ensure an adult of legal age is present at the delivery address to sign. If delivery fails because no one is available to sign, all return shipping, re-delivery, and additional carrier fees are your responsibility and will be charged to the payment method on file.
Inspect your package before signing. If exterior packaging is visibly damaged when the carrier arrives, refuse the shipment and return it unsigned. Signing for a visibly damaged package constitutes acceptance in that condition and waives all shipping damage claims. For damage not visible on the exterior, you have 5 calendar days from the delivery date to contact us with photographic documentation of both the outer packaging and the item. Claims submitted without photos will be denied.
If a shipment is returned or fails delivery due to an error on your end or your receiving dealer's end, you are responsible for all costs to re-ship.
Can I combine shipping on multiple items won at Gunslinger Auctions?
Yes. When combining is practical and safe given the items involved, we will consolidate multiple wins from the same auction into a single shipment to reduce your shipping costs. Shipping is invoiced after the auction once we've physically assessed the items; if combining makes sense based on size, weight, and packaging requirements, we'll do it.
Long guns and handguns are rated separately, so the savings in any combined shipment depend on what you won and how the items can be packaged. We'll apply the most cost-effective configuration we can.
Can I pick up auction purchases in person at Gunslinger Auctions' Orange, CA location?
Yes. In-person pick-up is available at our Orange facility during regular business hours:
Gunslinger Auctions, LLC
1740 West La Veta Ave, Orange, CA 92868
Tuesday through Friday, 10 AM to 5 PM | Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM (PT)
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. We release purchases only to the registered buyer; this is the person named on the winning bid invoice. No exceptions, no proxies, no agents, no family members picking up on your behalf. If someone else shows up for your items, they leave empty-handed.
For firearms requiring transfer documentation: all DROS paperwork, FFL documentation, and payment must be fully resolved before same-day release is possible. If you are a licensed FFL dealer picking up a modern firearm for your own inventory, bring your signed license and all required paperwork on the day of pick-up.
All purchased items must be collected or shipped within 60 calendar days of the auction close. Storage fees of $5.00 per item per day begin on day 61. Items not collected or shipped within 60 days are considered abandoned and will be resold. See the storage policy for full details.
What is Gunslinger Auctions' storage policy, and when do fees and abandonment apply?
Gunslinger Auctions is an auction house, not a storage facility. All purchased items must be collected or shipped within 60 calendar days of the auction close. Here is how the timeline works:
- Days 1 through 60: No storage charge. Use this window to finalize transfer documentation, arrange shipping, or schedule pick-up.
- Day 61 onward: $5.00 per item per day, accruing every calendar day until the item leaves our facility.
- Day 60: Any item not collected or shipped by this date is legally considered abandoned. By accepting our Terms & Conditions, you have received advance written notice of this abandonment policy, satisfying any notice requirement under applicable California law governing warehouse liens, abandonment, and the sale of goods.
Upon abandonment, the Auction House enforces its possessory lien on the item under California law and will resell it in a commercially reasonable manner. Storage fees continue to accrue until the item is resold or disposed of. All accrued storage fees, the Auction House's standard resale commission, and all costs of the resale are deducted from gross resale proceeds before any remainder is remitted to you. If proceeds are insufficient to cover all amounts owed, you remain personally liable for the deficiency.
In practice, we work with buyers who communicate. If you know a delay is coming, call us before the deadline; do not wait until after it has passed. The policy exists and is legally binding, but a phone call early goes a long way.
Policies and Disputes
What should I do if something goes wrong with my Gunslinger Auctions purchase?
All sales are final. Every bid placed at Gunslinger Auctions is a binding purchase commitment. That said, we're reasonable people and we address legitimate problems directly.
Shipping damage: Refuse visibly damaged packages at delivery; do not sign for them. For damage discovered after opening, contact us within 5 calendar days of delivery with photographs of both the outer packaging and the damaged item. Claims without photographic documentation will be denied. Our liability for concealed shipping damage is limited to the lesser of the original purchase price or the actual documented damage.
Suspected misrepresentation: Contact us directly within 5 calendar days of receipt with documentation. We'll review it. We don't guarantee a resolution; all sales are final and our descriptions are opinions, not warranties, but we take legitimate concerns seriously. What we won't consider: buyer's remorse, finding it cheaper elsewhere, or change of mind. None of those are grounds for any claim.
Failed background check or transfer denial: A failed California DOJ background check or DROS denial does not void the sale. We are legally required to retain the firearm and cannot release it to you. You are automatically designated a Deemed Consignor and the item will be consigned for resale on your behalf. You remain liable for all accrued storage fees and the Auction House's 25% resale commission, and you are responsible for any deficiency if net resale proceeds don't cover all amounts owed. Know your own legal eligibility before bidding on a regulated firearm.
Disputes: Contact us first; most issues resolve with a direct conversation. If a dispute cannot be resolved directly, our Terms & Conditions require good-faith mediation in Orange County, California, followed by binding arbitration administered by JAMS or AAA in Orange County if mediation fails. Class action claims are expressly and irrevocably waived. All claims arising from a transaction must be brought within one year of when you knew or reasonably should have known of the issue; claims not brought within that period are permanently barred.
Do not file a chargeback in place of contacting us. A chargeback initiated for any reason other than documented unauthorized use of your payment method by an unaffiliated third party is a material breach of contract and triggers all default remedies, including the full invoice amount, a 25% administrative default fee on the Hammer Price, accrued interest, arbitration costs, and attorney fees. Call us first.
Classifications and Special Topics
What do firearm catalog classifications like Modern, C&R, PPT, and Pre-98 Antique mean at Gunslinger Auctions?
Every firearm in our catalog is assigned a transfer classification that determines how the lot must be transferred after purchase. Understanding these before you bid is your responsibility.
Modern: Any post-1898 manufactured firearm subject to full federal FFL transfer requirements. The buyer must provide a receiving FFL dealer, and we must have that dealer's current license on file before shipment or release. This is the most common classification in our auctions.
C&R (Curio & Relic): A firearm classified by the ATF as having historical significance; generally, these are manufactured 50 or more years ago or appear on the ATF's published C&R list. Holders of a valid ATF Type 03 Collector of Curios and Relics (C&R) license may be eligible to receive these firearms directly without routing through a standard FFL dealer. Submit your C&R license to us the same way you'd submit a standard FFL. California C&R license holders should be aware that California imposes additional state-level requirements on C&R transfers regardless of federal classification; confirm with us before bidding.
PPT (Private Party Transfer): An in-state California transfer between private individuals conducted through a licensed dealer. PPT firearms are exempt from the California Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale; California buyers can acquire off-roster handguns this way, but the full DROS and California transfer process still applies. A licensed dealer and all standard paperwork are still required.
Out-of-State Only: Firearms that California law prohibits us from transferring to California residents. California buyers may not bid on or purchase lots marked Out-of-State Only. Winning such a lot as a California resident will not result in a release of the firearm.
Pre-98 / Antique: Manufactured on or before December 31, 1898. Generally exempt from FFL transfer requirements under federal law (18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(16)) and may often ship directly to the buyer. State law can override this exemption; verify your own state's rules before relying on the federal classification.
How do I know if a firearm at Gunslinger Auctions qualifies as Curio and Relic (C&R)?
Our catalog marks lots we assess as qualifying for ATF Curio & Relic (C&R) status. Under federal law, a firearm may qualify as C&R if it is at least 50 years old, or if it appears on the ATF's published list of classified Curios and Relics regardless of age. Our C&R designation reflects our good-faith assessment; it is not a formal ATF determination.
Before relying on your ATF Type 03 C&R collector's license for a transfer, you are solely responsible for confirming the firearm's eligibility with the ATF or a licensed FFL. California C&R license holders face additional state-level transfer requirements that apply regardless of the federal C&R classification; contact us before bidding if you have questions about a specific lot and your California C&R license.
Do black powder and muzzleloading firearms sold at California auction require a DROS or FFL transfer?
Generally, no. Under federal law (18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(3)), antique firearms (including black powder, percussion cap, and most muzzleloading designs manufactured before 1899, or replicas thereof that cannot fire fixed ammunition) are not classified as "firearms" and are not subject to FFL transfer requirements. In most cases, these items can ship directly to the buyer without routing through a licensed dealer.
However, read every item description carefully before bidding. Some items that appear to be antique muzzleloaders may carry a different classification based on their specific design, components, or California's independent statutory definitions, which do not always align with federal law. If you're uncertain how a specific lot is classified and how it will transfer, ask us before you bid; do not wait until after you have won.
Does Gunslinger Auctions sell non-firearm items like militaria, edged weapons, or jewelry?
Yes. In addition to firearms, Gunslinger Auctions regularly offers edged weapons, militaria, jewelry, artwork, coins, and related collectibles as part of estate and collection lots. Most non-firearm items do not require FFL transfer and many can ship directly to the buyer.
Some non-firearm lots may contain components made from regulated or protected materials (including ivory, bone, horn, or other organics subject to federal or state law such as the Endangered Species Act or California's own ivory regulations). Where we cannot visually confirm material origin, we describe items in neutral terms. Compliance with all laws governing the purchase, possession, transport, and import or export of any regulated material is solely the buyer's responsibility. The inability to obtain any required permit does not void a sale or delay payment obligations.
Check each lot's catalog entry for specific handling, transfer, and shipping details; accessories, accessories with serialized components, and non-regulated items each carry their own requirements.
Does Gunslinger Auctions sell ammunition at auction?
Ammunition appears at auction from time to time as part of estate and collection lots; check the current catalog for availability. Ammunition lots are sold as-is, and California buyers should be aware that state law imposes its own requirements on ammunition transfers, including face-to-face transfer and eligibility verification through a licensed vendor for most transactions. Confirm applicable requirements with your receiving dealer before purchase.
For regular retail ammunition purchases, our sister store carries inventory:

Does Gunslinger Auctions accept firearm consignments, estate collections, or provide auction appraisals?
Yes. Gunslinger Auctions accepts firearms consignments on a rolling basis; single firearms, curated personal collections, and full estates are all welcome. We handle the cataloging, photography, listing, and auction process; you receive net proceeds after the auction. There is no commitment required upfront; contact us to discuss your items and we'll walk you through the process.
We also provide auction estimates and appraisals for insurance, estate, and valuation purposes. These are based on current auction market values, not replacement or retail cost.
